Living Museum

Dear Parents,                                                          

We have been plugging away at our history planner. Each one of your children has selected someone that they found interesting and they have been doing research about them. We are following the IIM research tool. So far, we have selected a topic, set goals, and collected and sorted notefacts. For our final presentation, we will be doing a living museum. The goal is to have each child dress in the fashion of the person they have selected. They will also be writing a report and stating facts about the life of the person they have chosen (being done in class).
            We will have the living museum on Friday, March 27^th. Where we need your help is with the costume. Between now and the 27^th, please start gathering some pieces around the house that your child could wear to look like their person. You can get as creative as you want. An example of an easy way to accessorize would be if your child is doing Benjamin Banneker (inventor of the first clock), you could send them with a clock or a watch. You can of course also give them hair, clothing, and whatever other accessories that would complete the look. On the 27^th, we will have the museum in our classrooms. On that day, please have your child come dressed in their costumes. They may bring a change of clothes to change into after the presentation. You are invited to come and see your own child’s presentation as well as the others in their classroom. The presentation will be from 8:15 – 9:00 am. We hope to see you all then!

Class Party

Parents,
Our class has earned another class party by filling up our marble jar. The class party will take place this Friday, January 30^th. The class has voted on having a breakfast party (I will bring in glazed donuts, kolaches, and orange juice for them) and bringing two items from home.

Please allow your child to pick two items from the following list below to bring in on Friday:
Small blanket
Pillow
Stuffed animals
Sport related item (to be played at recess)
Toy (no electronics)

Also, Please help us have a wonderful Valentine's Day party in class by donating the following items below. This party will be held at the end of the day on February 13th and will only be for the students. We will have other celebrations in the near future that we would love for you to attend. Math- finding halves, find patterns for doubling and halving, solve “what’s my rule?” problems for doubling and halving, calculate dollar and coin amounts, estimate weight, compare numbers, collect and record data, compare inches and centimeters, find median in a set of numbers, use frequency tables, line plots, use graphs to answer questions and draw conclusions

Science- investigating the effect of an object by increasing or decreasing sound energ

Weekly Objectives

Good Morning Parents,

On Tuesday I sent home a new reading form with your child’s new reading level on it. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me. The students all have been working so hard and it truly shows! Starting next week, we will be working on our summative project for this IB Unit of inquiry. Your child will pick a friend from class and together they will be working on creating a weather report to present to the class.

Starting on Tuesday, January 20^th we will a student teacher from the University of Houston join our class. Ms. Johnson will be with us from January until the middle of May. There will be times where Ms. Johnson will take over certain lessons. I wanted to share this news with you so that you won’t be surprise when you start to hear stories about Ms. Johnson from your children.

Since we started this new semester of school we have experience a high volume of tardies here at Roberts. Please remember that the first bell rings at 7:55 and students should be seated at their desks by 8:00. Thank you so much for making every effort to get your children here to school on time. I really do appreciate it!

Happy New Year Parents!

I hope you had a wonderful time with your family and friends over the Holiday break. I’m excited to start this new semester of school and to see all of your children again tomorrow.

Language Arts- comparative endings: -er, -est; verbs: am, is, are, was, were; final syllable –le; adjectives

Reading- fact and opinion, drawing conclusions

Math- addition of three or more numbers, comparison number stories, collecting and analyzing data, mixed addition and subtraction stories, subtraction strategies, creating equal size groups, using geoboards to create arrays, solve multiplication number stories using rectangular arrays

Science- water cycle review, moon phases, measuring wind, temperature, and precipitation, observe cloud patterns
